Objective:
OIIRR is considered a particularly important sequel of orthodontic treatment.
Provide a systematic review of the literature on the root resorption caused by orthodontic treatment.
Methods & Materials:
The literature relating to orthodontic related root resorption is explored in pubmed electronic database.
Result:
The onset and progression of root resorption are associated with risk factors related to the orthodontic treatment and/or Patient-related risk factors. The prevention of root resorption during the orthodontic treatment may be performed controlling the risk factors. There is some evidence that a 2 to 3 month pause in treatment decreases total root resorption. Several trials have been proposed strategies to minimize or prevent Orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption.
Conclusion:
The results were inconclusive in the clinical management of root resorption, but there is evidence to support the use of light forces to reduce resorption.
