Orthodontic practice management & mobile health infrastructures

Objective:
Health information technology (HIT) provides access to patient information management and supports decision making.  Mobile health as wireless technology plays a key role in enhancing patient care. Aim of this article is to manage orthodontic practice by mobile health and survey wireless technology infrastructures.
Methods & Materials:
This study is a review article. Three databases including Medline, Scopus, and PubMed from 1990 to 2011 were searched systematically. Keywords were mobile health, orthodontic practice, and informatics according to Medical Subjects Headings (MeSH).
Results:
Professionals monitor and triage patients by wireless technology at any time and from any place. Patients receive appointment reminders from orthodontic consultants. Mobile networks have the potential to deliver enormous benefits by improving access to data at the point of care, reducing costs, improving response times. Implementing of this technology require to appropriate technical infrastructure and network equipments.
Conclusion:
Mobile health enhances tracking and quality of patient care. Workflow guidelines improve the application of mobile devices. These guidelines can be surveyed in future research.
